Dr Josipa Petrunic
President and CEO, CUTRIC, Canada

Josipa Petrunic is the President & CEO of the Canadian Urban Transit Research and Innovation Consortium (CUTRIC). She is leading the formulation of several national transportation technology trials related to zero-emissions transportation and “smart vehicles” innovation, including the Pan-Canadian Electric Bus Demonstration & Integration Trial, the Pan-Canadian Hydrogen Fuel Cell Demonstration & Integration Trial, and the National Smart Vehicle Demonstration Project. Dr. Petrunic has built up CUTRIC’s consortium to include more than 100 private and public sector companies and organizations across Canada. Previously, she served as the lead researcher in electric vehicle policy studies at McMaster University, and as a senior research fellow in the history and philosophy of mathematics at University College London (UCL) in the United Kingdom in Science and Technology Studies. Dr. Petrunic continues to lecture in Globalization Studies at McMaster University. She currently sits on the Board of the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) Foundation and Women's Transportation Seminar - Toronto (WTS Toronto).  In 2018, she was named as one of Canada's Top 40 Under 40 by Bloomberg News and Canada's Top Clean 50. In 2019, she was named Aspioneer Top 10 Influential Women Leaders. In 2020, she received an award in the Canada’s Most Powerful Women: Top 100 Awards for her role in the Science and Technology industry.



Lauren Skiver
CEO/General Manager, SunLine Transit Agency, USA

Ms. Lauren Skiver began her transit career 25 years ago as a Maintenance Clerk at Hillsborough Area Regional Transit. She went on to executive positions at the Maryland Transit Administration, CEO of Delaware Transit Corporation, and has served as CEO/General Manager of SunLine Transit Agency since late 2013. SunLine has contributed nearly 30 years to the research, development and execution of alternative fuel production and vehicle projects. As the largest producer of hydrogen in North America for transportation, SunLine continues to be a pioneer. Prior to her transit career, Ms. Skiver served in the U.S. Army specialising in Military Intelligence as an Imagery Analyst.

Adam Begg
Co-CEO, Kinetic

Adam is a Co-CEO and founding Director of Kinetic, Australia and New Zealand’s largest bus operator supporting major industries including aviation and resources as well as delivering government-contracted public transport, school and charter services.

Adam was born and grew up in Melbourne and is passionate about generating fulfilling work opportunities for members of our community who need it most. He is also focussed on driving meaningful change to society through Kinetic's core sustainability commitments of gender equality in the workforce by 2030, applying a gold standard to inclusion and achieving net zero emissions by 2035.  

Leading the execution and planning for the transition to zero emission buses, in the last year alone Kinetic has partnered with clients in Auckland, Christchurch, Melbourne and Queensland to grow greener, more sustainable bus networks, delivering nine electric bus depots and 186 Zero Emission buses with an additional 120 to be delivered in 2023.

The transport sector has a significant environmental footprint and Adam believes in taking action today, and working collaboratively with our clients to produce more sustainable movement solutions. 

Adam has led Kinetic’s drive for excellence as it has grown from a single airport bus service in Melbourne to 88 government bus contracts, 4900 buses, 7300 people and 92 depots. He is now spearheading greener transport with clients, offering low-emission vehicle options and transition plans to net zero. 

Before co-founding Kinetic in 2014, Adam enjoyed a long and successful career in the Australasian transport advisory and finance sectors.


Clément Hamart
Business Development Officer, Transdev Australasia

Clement is an accomplished New Mobility Specialist, holding a master's degree in entrepreneurship and innovation. He has over five years' experience delivering innovative mobility solutions for Transdev. Clement believes that innovation, and leveraging new emerging technologies, is imperative to driving significant commercial and customer experience outcomes for all stakeholders. Clement's knowledge and expertise place him at the forefront of cutting edge of On Demand transport new mobilities in general. He has supported the door-to-door-to-door strategy of numerous on-demand pilots in NSW, operated by Transdev.


Darek Koper 

Group Manager Metro Services, Auckland Transport, New Zealand

Darek is leading the public transport, on demand and total mobility service delivery and decarbonisation of Auckland’s public transport bus and ferry fleets and infrastructure specifications to improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. He has 15 years’ experience in various roles in the transportation industry.

Darek is leading Auckland Transport’s transition to zero emission bus fleet known as Auckland’s Low Emission Bus Roadmap. Auckland’s Low Emission Bus Roadmap was a finalist for the Low Carbon Future Award at the 2021 New Zealand Energy Excellence Awards and the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus trial is a finalist for the Low Carbon Future Award at the 2022 New Zealand Energy Excellence Awards.

Darek collaborates with private bus operators to facilitate greater understanding of the benefits of moving to zero emission fleets and plays a key role in the development of supply chain to support the transition from diesel to electric and hydrogen fuel cell buses and ferries, their management, operations and charging infrastructure. He is also chairing the New Zealand Low Emission Bus Working Group tasked with overcoming challenges and removing barriers to earlier adoption of zero emission buses in New Zealand.


Gareth Ridge 

Country Director - Australia and New Zealand, Zenobē

Gareth leads Zenobe’s business in Australia and New Zealand, building on the growth and success of Zenobe in the UK and Europe.

He is a former Management Consultant and Strategy expert in the energy and water utility sectors​ and has had a focus on grid-edge technologies, both through his consulting engagements and through Zenobe’s work within the transport and energy sectors.

Gareth is excited about making a positive change in the industries we work in and facilitating rapid transformation through the use of proven technology, strong expertise and Zenobe’s access to capital.


Helen Williams
Executive General Manager for Transport ANZ, SYSTRA ANZ

Helen Williams is the Executive General Manager for Transport Consulting  in ANZ. Her career spans over 30 years of engineering management and leadership. She leads a broad range of interrelated technical, systems and human centred disciplines blending local expertise with extensive global reach back. Helen is passionate about building integrated, engaged teams to deliver optimal, sustainable and resilient solutions to complex challenges for the communities in which we all live and work.


Jarrod Graham
GM Operations and Assets, Transdev

Jarrod is a well-regarded industry leader with wide-ranging expertise across the supply chain and transport logistics, maritime ports management, terminal operations, and performance. A dedicated people leader, Jarrod draws on his extensive people leadership knowledge to promote a high performance culture with an emphasis on safety, security and adherence to quality standards and compliance.

Jarrod joined Transdev Sydney Ferries as General Manager, Operations in June 2022, taking on the dual role of General Manager, Operations & Assets in January 2023. With over 25 years of experience in terminal and port operations, ship repair facilities and delivering technology-driven customer solutions, Jarrod is committed to driving excellence across operational and people & fleet perspectives, with a strong focus on continual improvement in predictive maintenance capabilities and technological innovation.

Jarrod's technical expertise is supported by a thorough understanding of industrial relations and a passion for cultivating positive relationships with stakeholders across industry unions and public sector agencies.

Jarrod has held several strategic positions with transport and maritime industry leaders, such as Hutchison Ports Australia, Patrick Terminals, DP World.


Jay Zmijewski
Chief Operating Officer, Keolis Downer

Jay is the Chief Operating Officer for Keolis Downer Bus, with over 20 years’ experience in bus operations, driving and implementing operational improvements and efficiencies.  He oversees the day-to-day operations of over 1300 buses across Australia, along with the first multi-modal contract in Australia which operates buses, trams and ferries.  

Prior to this role, Jay was the Chief Operating Officer for NZ Bus, where he introduced 70 Zero Emission Electric buses in Auckland and Wellington. He has previously worked with State Transit, Forest Coach Lines and ComfortDelGro in senior operational roles. 

Jay is passionate about the bus industry and sees incredible opportunities to transform the way we deliver services, accelerate the energy transition, and provide more value for money to public transport authorities across Australia.



Jon Whelan
Chief Executive, Department for Infrastructure and Transport

Jon Whelan is the Chief Executive for the Department for Infrastructure and Transport with over 35 years of extensive experience with the Department. He is passionate and committed to serving South Australians and has a proven track record of leading and fostering successful teams and delivering result for government and community.  

He is accountable to the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, with diverse responsibilities for transport systems and services, planning, efficient transport, and valuable social and economic infrastructure that will improve the lifestyles of all South Australians.  

It is estimated that approximately $4.2 billion will be spent over the next two financial years, which includes a significant investment both in Metropolitan Adelaide and in regional South Australia.   

A highly respected and respectful professional both within government and industry, with long standing productive working relationships with private sector and across government. A sound adaptable and politically astute leader, who maintains open and honest communication.   

Jon has been appointed by the Governor of South Australia as both the Rail Commissioner, and the Commissioner of Highways, with overarching responsibilities for all modes of transport in South Australia.  

His responsibility under the SA Public Transport Authority is to ensure that a well-connected and customer focused service for mass transit movements are delivered safely, efficiently, and sustainably.  More recent achievements have seen Jon deliver the almost $1 billion Adelaide FestivalPlaza Precinct redevelopment. He has successfully led the North-South Corridor, TorrensRoad to River Torrens Project Team through the Department’s first competitive Alliance procurement process. The Department is now in its eighth Alliance, with Jon having been a member of every Alliance Leadership Team. 


Judith Sturman
Executive Group Manager Transport Canberra, Transport Canberra and City Service

Judith’s core discipline is in transport operations and customer service delivery spanning more than 30 years.  She has worked in private and public companies across heavy rail, buses and light rail in the UK and throughout Australia.

Judith’s main focus has been to successfully lead teams through change and delivery, including customer and business reforms as well as operationalisation of major infrastructure projects, such as the Regional Rail Link in Victoria. In her current role of Executive Group Manager of Transport Canberra, Judith is responsible for leading the teams managing light rail, bus operations and public transport planning and delivery, including zero emission buses, next generation ticketing and public transport growth.


Julien Dehornoy

Chief Executive Officer, Keolis Downer

Julien is a true believer in public transport. In his 15 years of experience in the rail and public transport industry across 3 continents, he has worked with both Government and operators to make public transport the preferred option. Julien is currently the CEO of Keolis Downer, the largest multimodal public transport operator in Australia, with train, tram, bus, ferry or new mobilities operations across 5 States. In this role, Julien’s focus is to increase the use of public transport, by delivering a great passenger experience and operational excellence, bringing international best practice to serve local needs, as well as driving engagement with the 5,300 Keolis Downer employees.

Prior to this role, Julien was the CEO of Yarra Trams, the operator of Melbourne tram network, the largest in the world, and held various positions at SNCF, the national French rail operator, including CEO of SNCF America (2010-2012) and Managing Director of RER D, SNCF’s busiest commuter line in Paris (2014-2017). In French Government, Julien was the Project Manager for the first franchising of Intercity trains (2008-2010) and Chief of Staff to the Transport Minister (2017-2019).

Throughout his career, Julien has had a passion for transport policy, improving passenger experience and upgrading service delivery of large transit systems. He believes in building true partnerships between public transport authorities, experienced public transport operators and the broader industry, to deliver positive outcomes for local communities.

A French national, Julien relocated to Melbourne in 2019 with his family. In his free time, he can usually be found on his bike or tram spotting with his son.


Katie Cooper
Chief Executive Officer, Metro Tasmania

Katie Cooper is a commercially focussed, operationally experienced and authentic business executive with an impressive track record in both private and public sector services. 

A strong communicator and with a strategic customer and performance focus, Katie excels at managing complex and fast paced operations while also delivering results.

Prior to joining Metro Tasmania, Katie held senior positions with Melbourne Airport, Stansted Airport, Northern Territory Airports and Air New Zealand.  Over the course of Katie’s career, she has worked across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom and has also completed an MBA.  Katie was awarded a Chief Executive Women scholarship to attend Harvard Business School’s leadership program and in 2012, was the Northern Territory Telstra Business Woman of the Year.

Katie is the inaugural Chair of the Tasmanian Chapter of Chief Executive Women (CEW).  She was also previously a Director of the Australian Airports Association, Tourism Central Australia and Chamber of Commerce (Alice Springs).

Mark Peters
General Manager Fleet, Innovation & Business Intelligence, Transit Systems

Mark has been in the bus industry for 34 years and has experience in a number of roles including Automotive Electrician, Workshop Manager, Depot/Operations Manager, Area Manager and General Manager. The Transit Systems Australian Public Transport Division of the Kelsian Group currently operate around 3,000 buses including 60 Battery Electric Buses (55 in Sydney, 4 x in Perth and 1 x in Adelaide. In addition to this, Mark is working with multiple State transport agencies on additional Battery Electric Bus and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus projects. His portfolio also includes business intelligence focused on benchmarking business units, as well as ZEB total cost of ownership and various funding models.

 


Natasha Santha 

Partner, L.E.K. Consulting

Natasha regularly advises Governments and industry on the impact of new and emerging transport technologies. Her experience spans all modes , and covers public transport, road, and airports. 

She has also worked extensively across the energy value chain, including renewable technologies and alternative fuels – bringing a deep understanding of the implications of the decarbonisation of the transport fleet.

Natasha has led several high stakes projects in the context of service/technology driven transport disruption and supporting the transition to net zero emissions.


Richard Skoda 

Director Project Development Infrastructure and Place, Transport for NSW

Richard Skoda is the Director, Project Development from Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW). He is leading the development of the Zero Emission Buses (ZEB) program in NSW which includes the transition of over 8,000 combustion engine buses and hundreds of diesel depots across NSW to net zero operations.

Working with industry and government, Richard led the creation of the TfNSW Zero Emission Buses Transition Plan which was released in June 2022. The plan outlines a staged transition to zero emission technology considering environmental and financial sustainability, operator readiness, supplier capacity and technology risk.

In the past year, he has helped secure funding of over $3 billion to commence the journey to zero emission bus operations in the Sydney metropolitan region which includes over 1,200 buses and 12 depots and to trial new bus technology in within Rural and Regional NSW.

Richard is Chair of the Public Transport Association Australia New Zealand (PTAANZ) ZEB RoundTable which is represented by transport agencies across Australia and New Zealand.


Russ Yell 

Regional Director ANZ, Optibus

Russ is a thought leader and influencer at the forefront of global mobility innovation. In his current role he works with transport agencies and transport operators in ANZ to improve mobility outcomes through the Optibus platform and its ever-increasing suite of capabilities.

During his 20 years in the transport and infrastructure industry he's worked across the globe, and has always sought to challenge norms and find opportunities to improve outcomes through process redesign, user-centricity and the adoption of innovative technologies. 


Sally Stannard 

Deputy Director-General, Department of Transport and Main Roads (Translink)

Sally is the Deputy Director-General of the Department of Transport and Main Roads and the head of TransLink, where she leads the delivery of customer-focused passenger transport services across Queensland including policy, planning, ticketing, contract management and customer services.  

TransLink Division is responsible for the integrated rail, bus, ferry and tram network in South East Queensland; and long-distance rail, coach and aviation services in regional, rural and remote Queensland, in addition to school transport, personalised transport and demand responsive transport services. 

Sally has qualifications in Engineering and International Studies and is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. 


Taylor Gouge
Principal Transport Engineer, WSP

Taylor is a Principal Transport Engineer within WSP’s Planning & Mobility team with 15 years of experience delivering multi-modal sustainable transport planning, engineering, and design projects in Australia and the United States.

Taylor is an experienced Project and Technical Manager passionate about data-based decision-making and best practices in the delivery of bus planning projects globally. She is currently a zero-emission bus planning advisor to the NSW, ACT, and Victorian governments focused on strategic design development and planning for the conversion of existing diesel depots to battery-electric operation.   

Prior to joining WSP Australia, Taylor was the Deputy Director for Transit Development and a Project Manager at the New York City Department of Transportation where she was responsible for the planning, design, and delivery of transit-priority projects.


Terry Lee-Williams

Director Future Transport, Aurecon

Terry Lee-Williams joined Aurecon as Director Future Transport after returning from consulting across Europe on transport strategy and sustainability. Terry previously led Transport Advisory for Australasia for a large consulting group following a substantial career as a senior executive in various public roles, including at Transport for NSW, the City of Sydney and the Department of Transport WA. Terry has deep experience not only in policy and strategy, but also operations, technology, service, infrastructure, funding, appraisal, procurement and stakeholder management. 


Warren Young

National Sales Manager, VDI Yutong

After 5 generations of trucks and bus transport, Warren has lived and breathed this industry his whole life, which is likely apparent by his raw passion for it.  

Aside from working in the family truck and bus businesses, Warren also experienced a range of roles in the industry including as a route, school and tour coach driver, operations controller for a large coach company, bus and coach account manager for BCI, Scania and for the last 2 years his current role with VDI Yutong.  

As an interlude to the bus industry, Warren devoted 11 years as a professional firefighter, during which time he created a home fire safety business that is still operated by his Wife. Needless to say, he is keen to see our industry adopt the highest safety standards to protect lives to maintain the confidence of the travelling public and therefore prevent any roadblocks to a Zero-Emission future.
