Alok Jain
CEO and Managing Director, Trans-consult

Alok is the CEO and Managing Director of Trans-consult, a management-consulting firm, specializing in advisory services for technology driven public transport operation and management. He has a long portfolio of experience in the transportation sector and is an international expert trainer with International Association of Public Transport (UITP). He is a fellow of Civic Exchange and serves in the Council for Decarbonizing Transport in Asia. He is a Senior Advisor to IoTSG/AllThingsConnected, Singapore. 

He served as Deputy Operations Director of The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd. (KMB) between 2013 and 2016, leading the strategy and planning for improving efficiency, instilling process management, restructuring the network and implementation of new technology, which resulted in a HK$1billion turnaround in the profitability. 

Prior to KMB, he was Director of Trans-consult Asia, Hong Kong, and MVA Asia, Hong Kong, and led the design and planning of many large-scale transport infrastructure projects. 

Alok has also worked for MTR Corporation / KCR Corporation, Hong Kong for 12 years. His last position was General Manager-Marketing prior to which he also worked in the areas of railway/metro project planning and management, operations planning, testing and commissioning of new lines, revenue management, financial appraisals, and strategic planning. 

Alok played an active role in a number of other business organizations and worked in many countries in a career spanning over 30 years. With several publications to his credit including contributions to a book on best practices in railways operations and management, he is a regular speaker on multi-modal integration, public transport operations & management, SMART mobility, and clean vehicle technologies.


Darek Koper, Group Manager Metro Services, Auckland Transport, New Zealand

Darek is leading the public transport, on demand and total mobility service delivery and decarbonisation of Auckland’s public transport bus and ferry fleets and infrastructure specifications to improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. He has 15 years’ experience in various roles in the transportation industry.

Darek is leading Auckland Transport’s transition to zero emission bus fleet known as Auckland’s Low Emission Bus Roadmap. Auckland’s Low Emission Bus Roadmap was a finalist for the Low Carbon Future Award at the 2021 New Zealand Energy Excellence Awards and the Hydrogen Fuel Cell Bus trial is a finalist for the Low Carbon Future Award at the 2022 New Zealand Energy Excellence Awards.

Darek collaborates with private bus operators to facilitate greater understanding of the benefits of moving to zero emission fleets and plays a key role in the development of supply chain to support the transition from diesel to electric and hydrogen fuel cell buses and ferries, their management, operations and charging infrastructure. He is also chairing the New Zealand Low Emission Bus Working Group tasked with overcoming challenges and removing barriers to earlier adoption of zero emission buses in New Zealand.

David Binnie, General Manager - Energy of Tuaropaki Trust, Tuaropaki

David brings over 30 years of experience in the global energy industry to his role as GM of energy at Tuaropaki Trust.  He is accountable for providing strategic and operational leadership to the Trust’s energy portfolio, currently geothermal and green hydrogen, maximizing short-term profitability and generating sustainable growth in low-carbon energy.  

David’s experience extends to hydrocarbon and low carbon energy, international business development and major project development having worked internationally for BP for over 25 years and locally with Z Energy for 7 as Head of Supply. Dave also has experience working with and for governments promoting economic development and improving Health, Safety & Environmental sustainability performance.  ‘Ko Kōtirana te whakapaparangi mai’ ‘Ko Aotearoa te kāinga’ David and his family moved from Scotland in 2011 to live in New Zealand.  Outside of work David is a passionate guitar player and finds any opportunity to play.  

He also takes every chance to enjoy Aotearoa’s outdoors be it diving, hunting or fishing.  Dave says, “I am inspired by what the Tuaropaki Trust has achieved and am honored to have the chance to build on that legacy”   “I am committed to making the biggest impact I can in addressing climate change by transforming our energy sector”. “We have the capability in our sector to find the answers to one of humanities greatest threats and I am excited to be part of that”  


James Howard, School Contracts and Projects Manager, Tranzit Group

James’ experience leading Tranzit’s electric bus program and working with the energy sector to deliver critical charging infrastructure has helped future proof Tranzit’s business.  In addition, James leads Tranzit’s Tender team – guiding colleagues through numerous business transitions and implementation plans for government agencies as well as regional councils.


Kristian Jensen, Technical Director - Industrial & Utilities, WSP NZ

Over 30 years in major projects including hard rock mining, heavy industrial, transport, commercial buildings and HV power systems.

He has put over 40MW of power into kilometre deep mines, electrified their transport and then come up wondering why no one else had done it on the surface. He has the dubious honour of holding the record for projecting various parts of HV switchgear across Sydney, much to the consternation of the test laboratory neighbours.

His clients include large government, public and private organisations spread across NZ and the Pacific Islands. Projects cover aspects of strategic asset management, transport, power utilities, energy, communications, and earthing.


Dan Kahn, Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder, Hiringa Energy

Dan is an experienced engineer with a multi-disciplinary background in hydrogen and clean-technology product development. Dan has designed, installed, and commissioned 700 bar H2 filling stations, and automated fuel-cell manufacturing equipment for major manufacturers such as Daimler. He has also spent considerable time at the intersection of technology and policy, helping develop novel carbon-capture and fuels synthesis technologies. 

Dan’s role at Hiringa includes defining companywide technical strategy, evaluating feasibility of emerging solutions, lead and develop demand-side projects including heavy transport, marine and industrial, along with communicating technical activities with investors and government stakeholders. 


Delaney Myers, Manager Public Transport, Waka Kotahi

Delaney is an experienced public sector leader, with transport leadership roles spanning regulatory, policy, asset management, operations and investment.  

With a strong focus on turning strategy into action and a healthy dose of pragmatism, Delaney has led many complex government initiatives, and is now responsible for implementing the new Sustainable Public Transport Framework, (which replaces the Public Transport Operating Model, known as PTOM).  This framework has a strong focus on decarbonisation and will be developed in conjunction with a number of government investment programmes under the Climate Emergency Response Fund to improve and decarbonise public transport.


Amrita Sharma, Principal Infrastructure Lead, Auckland Transport

Amrita is leading the high voltage specification required for electrical infrastructure to support the decarbonisation of Auckland’s public transport bus and ferry fleets. She works closely with the local electrical lines network operator, Vector, to work on solutions to supply the required power to various bus depots, bus stations, and ferry terminals as the current fleet are transitioning from diesel to zero emission bus and low emission ferry fleet. 

Amrita has an extended experience in the Power Systems industry. She helps the team at Auckland Transport to understand the challenges and complexity of bringing high voltage power connection to various sites and works with affected stakeholders on workable solutions.


Russ Yell, Regional Director ANZ, Optibus

Russ is a thought leader and influencer at the forefront of global mobility innovation. In his current role he works with transport agencies and transport operators in ANZ to improve mobility outcomes through the Optibus platform and its ever-increasing suite of capabilities.

During his 20 years in the transport and infrastructure industry he's worked across the globe, and has always sought to challenge norms and find opportunities to improve outcomes through process redesign, user-centricity and the adoption of innovative technologies.
